Ultrasound
Ultrasound is the use of sound waves to take pictures of organs and tissues in the body. There is no documented evidence of ill effects of ultrasound usage in the medical setting.
Ultrasound was first used in the U.S. military during World War II and was known as sonar. The same techniques are used today with medical applications but the audible range is much higher and not detectable by the human ear.
Ultrasound produces very precise images of soft tissues and reveals internal motion. Ultrasound can be used to diagnose problems and to guide treatment. Trained technologists or a radiologist perform ultrasound procedures.
