Outpatient Surgery
Not too long ago, surgery meant an extended hospital stay. Today, through advancing technology, many surgeries can be performed in the span of a day, allowing the patient to return home after a short recuperation period.
At CHRISTUS Schumpert, we strive to make your outpatient surgery as convenient and comfortable as possible. From preadmission testing to the procedure, our staff has the experience and desire to provide you with the smoothest transition possible.
Once you and your physician have made the decision for you to have surgery, there are additional steps that must be taken in order for us to provide this smooth transition. For your convenience, we have listed each step necessary to prepare you for your hospital experience.
Scheduling
Your physician's office will schedule your surgical procedure. You will then need to call the hospital where your surgery is scheduled to make an appointment for preadmission testing.
Preadmission testing
The Preadmission Testing Center offers a convenient way for you to be well prepared for your surgical procedure. Preadmission testing facilitates the admitting process.
During your scheduled visit to the testing center, you will:
- Complete your admission papers.
- Speak with a nurse.
- Receive patient and family education and instructions.
- Meet with an admission clerk.
- Discuss financial obligations.
- Complete any physician-ordered tests, such as blood work.
The day of surgery
At the preadmission testing, you will be given information concerning where to go on the day of your surgery and at what time.
Please remember to wear comfortable, loose clothing on the day of surgery. A staff member will join you shortly before surgery to begin getting you ready for your surgery. You should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after your surgery. He or she is welcome to stay with you in the day surgery area while you recover.
